An important message about membership in 2020
This year the Covid-19 outbreak has put the club in an unprecedented position: in the absence of competitive cricket and any training programme for so much of the season, we felt we could not justify asking for subscriptions. This has, of course, substantially reduced our income, while we have still needed to pay some running costs.
More recently we have started to open up coaching and net use, under stringent conditions to reduce the risk of transmission of the virus (see below). We have been delighted with the uptake so far and the enthusiasm shown by those who completed our recent survey. We hope to offer coaching and training sessions over the summer. We may even have the possibility of cricket matches on the horizon. This will inevitably incur costs for the club.
When we had to cancel the club dinner in March, a number of members very kindly donated their ticket money. Some of those who had already paid their subscriptions before the season took off have also kindly offered to donate this money. And we have been very touched by the positive response to the suggestion in our survey that we should ask for donations this year.
The Annual General Meeting in November 2019 agreed the following subscription rates:
Senior men (playing): £75
Senior women (playing): £60
Family rate (including one playing adult): £150
Vice President: £50 (£75 couple)
U11 to U16 - £60
U8 to U10 - £45
U7 and below - £40
Rather than suggest that members pay a set proportion of these fees, which would not reflect people’s different circumstances, their ability or otherwise to take up any opportunities this year, and the possible unseen impacts of Covid-19 on individuals and families, we are instead inviting you all, members, friends and supporters, to make a voluntary donation. You may choose to use the usual subscription rates as a guide but this is by no means necessary. If you are using the nets or receiving any coaching or training from the club under our new arrangements, we would ask that you do make a donation to reflect this.
How to donate:
Please make your donation by BACS to Saffron Walden Cricket Club, sort code 20-74-05, account number 50784125, giving your surname as a reference.
If you are a taxpayer, and have not previously completed a Gift Aid form, we would ask you to do so now. This will enable us to claim an extra 25% of your donation from the government. You can download a form HERE and send a photograph or scan of the completed form to email@example.com
Thank you in advance for your generosity – and your continued support in so many ways.
Become part of the team!
We welcome new members, playing or non-playing
You can download a senior registration form HERE - this includes Vice Presidents and Volunteers, as well as those who are paying as a family
You can download an Academy registration form, for players under 16 years HERE
If you are already a member, we don't need a new form. We just need your subscription and for you to tell us if any of your details have changed, especially contact details, medical conditions and so on. Email us on firstname.lastname@example.org
Club Minimum Subscriptions 2020
We have held under 8 to under 10 subscriptions at £45, as they have been for several years. Subscriptions for U7 and below have been reduced to £40, following the decision to reduce their training time to 1 hour per week. Academy subscriptions for all 11-16 years olds were increased to £60 in 2018 to reflect the additional, and increasing, expense of competitive cricket including hard balls, ground preparation and also umpires from time to time.
The Annual General Meeting in November 2019 agreed new simplified subscriptions for senior players: all senior male players pay a subscription of £75, while senior female players pay a subscription of £60.
As ever, if these costs present challenges for families PLEASE contact the chairman in confidence. SWCC, as a registered charitable organisation, does not want the cost of playing cricket to be prohibitive.
NB: Members wishing to play league cricket must join as a full playing member.

Members can if they wish pay subscriptions by BACS transfer. Please let us know if any of your details change so that we can keep your contact details updated ( email@example.com ).
To pay your subscriptions other than in person on registration day:
- pay by BACS transfer , sort code 20-74-05, account number 50784125. This will work only if you give a clear payment reference, i.e. the member's name. This is especially important where parents and children have different surnames. If you are paying for more than one member, it would be helpful if you would make a payment for each child, with their name as the payment reference. If you are paying a single sum for family membership, or VP membership for a couple, please give one first name and the surname as your reference but send a short email to Peter Hill ( firstname.lastname@example.org ) explaining who is covered by your payment. We will then know not to chase you!
- send us a cheque (payable to SWCC, sent to Peter Hill, Hill House, 27 Meadowford, Newport, Saffron Walden, Essex, CB11 3QL), with a note explaining who you are paying for and the member's name on the back
