The club has secured charitable status and is officially a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Charity No. 1157468). This is an enormous vindication of the work we have been doing in and for the community of Saffron Walden. The inclusive nature of the club and the provision of cricket for people of all ages and abilities, the development of our programme for girls and women and the use of our ground by local schools and clubs were all factors which were considered by the Charity Commission in reaching their decision. It is also an enormous statement of confidence in our future. It means we have a legal status, a limit on the liability of our officers and clear guidelines in terms of good governance and financial reporting. It should give a strong message to members that we are well managed and that we can approach the future with confidence. It will also help us secure our financial position not least by enabling us to claim Gift Aid on all donations made by UK taxpayers.
