In 2014 the Club secured charitable status, becoming a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (Charity No. 1157468).  This was an enormous vindication of the work we have been doing in and for the community of Saffron Walden.  The inclusive nature of the club and the provision of cricket for people of all ages and abilities, the development of our programme for girls and women and the use of our ground by local schools and clubs were all factors which were considered by the Charity Commission in reaching their decision.

Becoming a CIO has had a number of advantages for the Club.

  • It means we have a legal status, a limit on the liability of our officers and clear guidelines in terms of good governance and financial reporting.
  • It gives the message to members that we are well managed and that we can approach the future with confidence.
  • It will also help us secure our financial position, not least by enabling us to claim Gift Aid on all donations made by UK taxpayers. If you wish to make a gift-aided donation, please download the form HERE (Word version) or HERE (PDF).

As a CIO, the Club has a board of Trustees who meet three times a year. Their role is to ensure appropriate governance of the club in all its activities, financial, practical and administrative. The current Trustees are:

John Bagley

David Barrs

Peter Hill

Daniela Karsten

Chris Larlham

Richard Porch

John Whittaker
